I don't know what got into us but I guess we figured that if the kids could do it so could we, so we did!

On your mark... After some singing and preaching we ate dinner and had some more dancing...After dinner, we all played some more games and then had more fellowship until we had to leave...at midnight.

We drove straight through the night and got home at about 2PM.

A special thanks to all of you who hosted us and made us feel so welcome!

Have a great Thanksgiving!

'O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.'
1Ch 16:34

P.S. A trip report...(WARNING: LOTS OF PICTURES)

We went to Oregon again! I guess this is our year of travel...

This time it was just the five oldest kids...I know what you all are/have been thinking, go ahead and think it. Truth is, there is nothing to tell. No really, I mean it, it was just good fun!

The trip started on Sunday afternoon where we had to puuuulll ourselves away from the sweet fellowship (read: 'volleyball game') at church and hit the road. Our first destination was in Oregon and we were supposed to be there for breakfast on Monday. So after driving through the night, we arrived in a little town called Yoncalla. Shrouded in early morning fog, the quiet countryside scenery was almost fairy tale!

The Booher family farm

Our hosts for that day, Mr. and Mrs. Booher, graciously welcomed us to an awesome breakfast. Then the fun began! The girls helped with the fall canning.

They tell me these are carrots!

And the boys went next door to 'help' the younger Boohers (son and daughter-in-law to our hosts) build their house...

After a full day of more fellowship then work, an old-fashioned apple cider press was brought out, and we began squeezing apples...have you ever tasted fresh pressed apple cider? It was awesome!

We started falling asleep around 8:00 (can't imagine why) and had a great night's rest.

Tuesday found us on the road again, still headed North. Went up to Portland and hung a right across the top of Oregon. Next stop, Multnomah Falls.

The falls were so tall we couldn't get the whole thing in one shot!

Mandy, sharing the time with the family back home

That's a 'Tim pose'

And we had to do the tourist thing...

Need I explain? Just some really cool people!

Reluctantly pulling ourselves away from the splendor and beauty of God's creation, we got back in the warm vehicles and drove off into the sunset...ehh...actually we were still headed East.

We arrived at the Currans home/farm late that evening and despite the late hour they had waited dinner for us.
Fellowship went well into the next morning and after a short, rejuvenating rest, we were up by 6:30AM and off to see the farm.

C's and D's (temps were in the teens!)

Levi, holding a 400' pipe in one hand and pointing with the other! No, I was not mixing chemicals, at least, not intentionally. I was playing with magnetic force (this explains why my credit cards don't work anymore). But I wasn't supposed to be doing that either. In fact, all I was supposed to be doing was running wires . How boring is that? Here I was, surrounded by 'brains' (men with bushy hair, wrapped in lab coats, emitting evil sounding laughs from their curled lips) while they mixed, tested and...who knows what...with nuclear chemicals. For all I know, they've got atomic bombs in the basement!!! And their Russian accents didn't do anything to console my fears.

When I first went in, they told me that the radiation levels were so low that I almost didn't even have to worry about it...if I just washed my hands before I left, I would be fine! Then I leaned on a counter and someone says, "Watch OUT!!! That's the most likely place to get radiated... Go wash your hands right now!" Thanks! Like, you could have told me that sooner...now I've been radiated. Hey, at least I'll probably NEVER get cancer .

Premeditated Disqualification:
It happened in a small town late one morning. Willie was the victim of one of the most heinous crimes known to man! Premeditated Disqualification. He is firmly convinced that when he arrived at the DMV, keyed and ready to take his 'behind the wheel' driving test, he became another statistic, a victim...

"She never had any intention of passing me" says Willie, "in fact, she was failing everybody!" Poor Willie, a tall friendly looking 18 year-old. He was disqualified on the first turn. He had practiced and studied his whole life in anticipation for this moment and it hardly took 60 seconds to crush his dreams.

Willie pulled out of the parking lot and, following the examiners instructions, prepared to make a right turn. Driving past a long line of parked cars, he switched on the right turn signal and let off the accelerator. Coming to the end of the parked cars he eased right...and that's where it happened!!! The examiner accused him of not looking in his mirror and disqualified him...that was it!

The DMV was a scene of utter chaos immediately following the incident, crowds were surging in, some demanding answers, others looking subdued and worried. The DMV was not very cooperative and didn't want to give out information. The DMV department of public relations offered no comment.

The truth:
Biochemistry- The only part I made up was the description of the mad scientist. The employees at the lab are actually very friendly, kind and easy to work with/around. And I don't have any fear of an atomic bomb. The rest is true.

Premeditated Disqualification- No part of this is made up although the closing sentence is misleading. While written to sound like I was reporting current events...this is actually the norm for a CA DMV. And the reason DMV's PR offered no comment is probably because no one asked.

More Pictures...

My Uncle just sent me some pictures of the climb...

Leading the 2nd pitch

Willie, waiting...

That's me way up there. Thank you all for the encouragement. I tend to be of the mind set that if you don't have any thing to say/write, don't say/write anything at all.

But I guess I do have something to say!

We went to Yosemite again!
This time we were able to accomplish a goal we have had for many years. That is to climb Half Dome! And I don't mean via the cable route (I've done that 4 times). Our route was the very popular 'Snake Dike', an 800' 5.7 R, up the side opposite of the cables. (more info here)

The climb was fun although scary several times, as I had the potential to take a 120'+ fall!

We (My Uncle Rick, Brother Willie and myself) all made it up and back in one day, left at 4AM and got back to camp at 8PM! The climb was thrilling, rewarding, invigorating....and very scary!

The red line shows the route. The technical climbing actually ends about half way up, the rest was just walking (3rd class)!

The rest of the trip was very relaxing and enjoyable.

A view from the bottom of the climb

Darrell Gramm, flipping off the rock into Mirror Lake (No, there's no water)

Jack, 'getting some air'

"Catch me!" When the Greer family arrived with a large, empty, tandem axle trailer in tow we had no idea we would be needing it!

Pizza had been served, conversations started, people were eating...when the phone rang. J. from Texas (was here in CA settling his mother-in-laws estate and had loaded a trailer to the gills with stuff that he was supposed to take home with him) was on the line. "The trailer rolled, the house was all over the street...could we be of assistance?" He was only a few miles away!

Now we knew why the Greer's brought the trailer, even if they didn't know...! The 'rescue crew', consisting of 11 guys and 1 lady jumped in 2 vans, each pulling a trailer. We arrived on the scene with in 10 min. and had the whole mess loaded in another 15!

We relocated the operation to our house where we could take a deep breath, assess the situation and plan the next step. J. secured the use of another trailer and we unloaded, sorted and reloaded (a very fun task if done near the midnight hour with friends) finishing at about 11:30 P.M.

You never can tell what will happen at a Pizza Night so come on over and join the fun!

Better then I could have said it...

I found this blog through another blog and really enjoyed THIS post... The bus performed very nicely and we are all excited about the prospect of traveling again! In fact, we almost scheduled a trip to Utah next week!!!

Here's a brief trip report:
We left our house at about 10PM Thursday night and drove all the way through the night to Bend, OR. We only stopped once for fuel...made it in about 16hrs.

Enjoyed an awesome family camp hosted by the Johnson family. (Friday-Sunday)

Left camp Sunday afternoon and visited our friends house (also in Bend, OR) for several hours...Hit the road for home at about 11PM. Stopped for fuel and picked up a passenger who needed a ride to Sacramento area! Drove straight through to Sacramento where we fueled up (and dropped off our passenger).

The only excitement happened when we hit the Grapevine (a five mile, 6% grade) in the heat of the day, 100+ deg. Our bus would normally climb this hill at a whopping 20MPH. But this time, due to the heat, we had to slow it down to 10...and we had to turn the heater on full! It was a blast! A HOT blast!!! Never was the AC appreciated more then when we made the top of the grade!

Thanks for all your prayers!

"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." Rom 6:4

Computer time vs. Quality time

I've been spending a lot less time on the computer lately. The problem is, I'm spending more time at work instead...not so sure that's a good trade-off.

Last time I left you, I mentioned another kitchen we were starting. We did complete it in 5 days but I didn't take any pictures. My bad. We also built a deck last week. No pictures there either. Somebody needs to teach me to use a camera!

We had a great '4th of July'. Instead of hitting the beach (which we knew would be crowded) we went to our Grandpa's house and swam in his beautiful pool! It was a very nice, refreshing time spent with family.

Next weekend we are hoping to go to Oregon...It will be the first trip in the bus since we got back from Oklahoma. I've been spending quite a bit of time working on it these last couple of weeks and I think everything's working okay. Pray for us and pray for our BUS!

If you think you're a good person, take this test and find out!

Check this out (Thank you Mr. M-V!):
"...whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment:..." Matt 5:22a (KJV)
"...every one who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment..." Matt 5:22a (ASV)
Same verse, different translation...and different meaning! One allows for 'casue', the other doesn't.

God bless and I hope you all have a GREAT week!

Embarrassing Moment

A friend of ours brought some of the youth group from his Chinese church to our evening service yesterday and wanted us to sing for them. Directly after the service, one of the (youth group) girls came up to me and insisted, in broken english, that I take her picture. When I asked for the camera, I found out, much to my chagrin, that I wasn't taking the picture, I was supposed to be in it...Just me and her! The whole time my sisters and some friends who were visiting (you know who you are), were laughing at me. The picture probably didn't turn out well because my face was red!

Praying that this holiday will be a blessing to you and your family.

Freedom is not the liberty to do what we want, but the power to do what we ought!

"What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? Time flies and you get a lot done (hopefully).

We started a new schedule two weeks ago (the first time we've had a schedule in a looooong time). My Dad is a complete visionary, he likes to be free to do what comes up, but unfortunately, with 16 individuals (and yes, we are individuals :-) )living in one household, life was becoming an efficiency nightmare. So we developed a schedule that allowed lots of flexibility!

You may wonder if that's even a schedule? For us, it's huge, rigid, strict, harsh...HAHAHA

OK, here's how it works:
Due to our heavy ministry on Sundays, ministry that often lasts until late into the night, we don't work on Monday. Monday is set aside as our planning day, meaning we all take time to get together as a family and plan out the week. The things that we plan range from who will drive what cars on what days to, how we'll restore America to it's godly heritage! :-) Our family loves to get together and plan so this usually takes several hours.
After planning, we can use whatever time is left to take care of things around the house, run errands, etc. Then it's to bed at 9:00 (8:30 for Jack and younger). Tuesday thru Friday, we (are supposed to) get up at 5:00, have breakfast, read the bible together... Leave the house for work by 6:30. Work time for all, is between 7 and 3:30, for those at home, that means chores first and whatever time is left is spent on school.

Now that you're bored to death...I'll talk about work. :-)

We just completed another kitchen (kitchen remodels are our latest venture), and because I actually took some pictures this time, I'll share them with you...if you don't care, fine. But if you want to see the latest in kitchen remodels, a revolution that's gonna take the world by storm...read on. :-)

Here's how the job went:
Before we started Dad (our sales rep) and the cabinet manufacturer spent several hours with the customer, designing and working out details.

Some before pics:

Before -looking from the inside out- Notice how the fridge sticks out, isolating the kitchen from the breakfast nook.

Before- from the other end

Day 1 - It didn't take our awesome crew long to get down to business. We hauled away over 1900lbs. of trash that day. (Part of the crew -left to right-:Dad, Merrie and Chris)

Gotta love the creativity of the previous electrician

When we tore open the pantry, as per plans, we discovered that the wall we were to remove was structural. Chris did a great job supporting the ceiling and adding a beam in order to make room for the new cabinets

By the end of day 2 (a 12 hour day) we had all of our electrical and plumbing roughed in and the walls ready for the drywallers (for you easterners, that's sheetrockers ;-0)

The tapers were done by the end of day 3 but unfortunately we had to do some touch-up to make it look good. We painted on day 5...

On day six, our cabinet installation crew was there by 7:00AM (That's my Uncles, Mike and Rick on the right)

Cabinet installation took two days. Granite started late in the day, on day 7. Granite and flooring were done by (midnight!!!) on day 8

On day 9, the cabinet manufacturer had to come back out and install all the doors and details (because they weren't done before the cabinets left the shop)

And on the tenth day, we installed all the appliences and the finishing touches.

You can still see some details the cabinet guys haven't done. The walls and ceiling are plain white because the customer wanted to save money by adding color themselves later.

Under cabinet lighting

Some beautiful trim detail by Chris

Under the sink, that's about 3 hours of work right there! Includes a three compartment sink and two filter systems.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to show all of the custom details built into this job, but when it's said and done, the customer will have nearly twice as much storage space in the same sized kitchen! Including, 54<?> full extension drawers, 7 pull out bread boards, a pantry with 4' deep, full extension drawers that are able to support 200lbs. each, a removable section where a dishwasher can be installed at a later date, two pull out spice racks, 6 'secret' drawers...all this and more, for a very competitive price. Have I sold you yet? What else do you want to know? :-)

On Monday, we're supposed to start another kitchen (much smaller) that should take 5 days! Hopefully, I will remember to take pictures as we go.

"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." 1Cor 10:13

"For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe." 1Ti 4:10

Hey everybody,

We're on TV! You can see us on Sunday, if you have the Discovery HEALTH channel. The show is called 'On the Road with 16 Children', another episode about the awesome Duggar family. I haven't seen it yet so I can't guarantee that it's good... it is rated 'G'...

And last but not least:

Eze 16:48-50 "As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good."

Notice that while Sodom is known for it's immorality, the only phrase here that would relate to that is 'committed abomination' which could very well be any number of things(see below). God states here, that he destroyed it for other reasons, reasons that we would consider far 'less important'.

When our family went over this last week, it really hit home. According to God’s standard, we as a nation, are unrepentantly guilty of the very same things for which Sodom was destroyed.

Pride:
1Pe 5:5 "Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble."

Fulness of bread and abundance of idleness:
Eph 5:16 "Redeeming the time, because the days are evil."

Niether did she strengthen the hand of the poor:
Jas 2:15 "If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?"

Haughty:
Pr 18:12 "Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility."

Comitted abomination:
Pr 3:32 "For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous."
Pr 6:16 "These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him..."
Pr 11:1 "A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight."
Pr 11:20 "They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight."
Pr 12:22 "Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight."
And many more...

Wish I could say more but I've run out of time...Have a great weekend!

Test

This is a test to see if the sidebar will stay where it should.

When I posted the last post it pushed the sidebar all the way to the bottom of the page.

I couldn't figure out why.

Until I found it in the help section of the Blogger website.

They said that it could happen if the margins of the blog post are forced to expand beyond the fixed deminsion.

They said it could be due to oversized pictures

I think that must be the case.

Hopefully this post will be long enough to push the old post out of the way and bring the sidebar back to the top...

So let's see what happens...
